Ultralight Backpacks

Six Moon Designs Starlite

Designed for the long distance ultralight hiker, the Starlite has many features that make it feel perfect whether you're a long distance hiker or weekender looking to lighten your load.

The unique suspension system of this incredibly light 25 ounce frameless pack, allows you to comfortably carry loads up to 35 pounds. Should you wish to carry additional weight or prefer the added rigidity of an internal frame, simply slip in the two (optional) 24" stays to create an internal frame pack.

The new Starlite model better incorporates the pad pocket into the body of the pack, while still maintaining rear access to your pad. This change brings the pack side pockets closer to your back for easier access. And it allows the Starlite to support for a wider range of torso sizes.

The Starlite has a variety of styles and sizes of hip belts available, including the option of pockets.

Features:

  • New Harness System provides support for shorter torsos
  • Multiple Hip Belt Sizes & Styles
  • Added Interior Zippered Stash Pocket
  • Advanced Suspension System
  • Pad Pocket with External Access
  • Four Exterior Mesh Pockets
  • Compression System

  • Dry Bag Closure

Options:

1) Multiple Hip Belt Support

The Starlite is available with a choice of hip belt sizes and styles. Each belt is padded with a stiff 3/8" thick foam core. The hip belts are available both with and without pockets.

The sizing of the hip belt depends on the length of padding used in each belt. In addition to the padding, each belt has 30 inches of 1.5" webbing. This allows the belt considerable latitude for waist sizes. Which belt is right for you depends on how much padding you wish. The table below lists the various sizes of hip belts available and their recommended waist sizes.

Hip Belt Pockets   Each of the two hip belt pockets measures 3.5" X 6" X 2" and holds 42 cu. in. of easily accessible gear. Together they add an additional 80 plus cubic inches of storage to your pack. They are sized to be large enough to carry a small digital camera, GPS, snacks, sun screen or other quick access items. They are large enough to be functional, but small enough to not get in your way.

Size Padding Waist Sizes
Short 26 inches 26 to 34 inches
Medium 30 inches 30 to 38 inches
Long 34 inches 34 to 44 inches

2) Multiple Shoulder Strap Lengths

The Starlite is available with a choice of shoulder strap lengths. The standard length is 18" and is suitable for most people. A shorter 15" set of shoulder straps are available for short torso people.

3) Optional Stays

Sometimes it's nice to have a little additional support -- especially when using an inflatable pad as your primary support. The Starlite allows the use of two removable 24" aluminum stays. These provide additional load transfer for heavier loads. They are easily inserted or removed from the pack, so you easily insert them when needed.

Six Moon Designs Essence

The Essence is a complete re-work of our original Essence pack. It's packed with numerous enhancements suggested by early adopters of the Essence pack.

For the organized Ultralighter, The Essence Pack provides four exterior pockets, including Top Pocket and three side Mesh Pockets (one long pocket and two short ones). Together they provide storage for gear you need to access quickly.

With the optional 4-ounce hip belt, you have two additional pockets. These pockets are sized (35 cubic inches each) for holding your camera, GPS, and additional small items.

Panel Loading interior allows easy access to all of your interior gear, eliminating the need to unpack your pack to access buried items.

A set of interior pad restraints locks your pad in position to allow the pad to be incorporated into a virtual frame. This allows the pack to effectively transfer weight from your shoulders to your waist for more comfort.

The Essence is available with a choice of three hip belt sizes and styles. The two padded belts have a stiff 3/8" thick by 4" high foam core. The third style is not padded. The hip belts are available both with and without pockets. For the real ultralight enthusiast, skip the hip belt all together.

The sizing of the hip belt is dependent on the length of padding used in each belt. In addition to the padding, each belt has 30 inches of 1.5" webbing. This allows the belt considerable latitude for waist sizes. Which belt is right for you depends on how much padding you wish. The table below lists the various sizes of hip belts available and their recommended waist sizes.
